Soriana Signs Emida as Logistic Electronic Operator
FOOTHILL RANCH, California and MIAMI, Florida, March 22, 2006 (Business Wire) – Emida Technologies, through their Mexican subsidiary Red de Prepago de Mexico, has finalized an agreement with Soriana, one of Mexico’s largest retail chains, for exclusive electronic transaction processing of prepaid wireless recharge at all 198 Soriana stores in 89 cities throughout Mexico.
Soriana, a publicly traded company, was the first retailer to offer wireless top-up via ePINs over Emida’s Puntoflex network nearly two and a half years ago. Soriana will now move exclusively to electronic top-up within the next thirty days, being among the first major retailers to eliminate the use of ePINs. Wireless carriers Movistar and Telcel have already completed the necessary integration to be able to offer 100% electronic top-up at all Soriana stores, and two additional carriers, Unefon and Iusacell, are in the final stages of integration to also allow 100% electronic top-up of the services at all Soriana locations.
In the new agreement between Emida and Soriana, Emida becomes Soriana’s logistic electronic operator for an undisclosed per-transaction fee. Soriana chose Emida’s Puntoflex network based on the successful history between the two companies.
“We needed to move quickly from ePINs to electronic transactions, and Emida has proven themselves to be a knowledgeable, responsive and technically competent partner throughout our history together,” said Pedro Mejía Mendoza, Investor Relations Director, Soriana. “We trust Emida and are glad to be working with them as we continue to evolve and improve our product offerings to our customers.”
In addition, as Soriana makes the change from ePINs to electronic recharge, they have launched their new convenience store chain, Supercity, in Mexico. This strategic move will help Soriana pursue prepaid wireless opportunities in the convenience store sector, the largest reseller market of wireless top-up in the country. Soriana expects to have about 300 Supercity stores opened by the end of 2006. All Supercity stores will exclusively offer electronic top-up.
“Soriana has clearly put a lot of trust in us, and we appreciate that,” commented Manuel Nunez, Emida’s General Manager of Mexico. “Puntoflex has proven to be a robust, secure and reliable electronic distribution network for Soriana, and as another key element to Soriana’s success with their all-electronic strategy, we will provide Soriana and all cellular carriers integrated into Soriana’s network with precise, clear and timely snapshots of the transactions being processed.”
More information on Soriana can be found on their web site www.soriana.com.mx.

Emida Announces Support of Lipman 8320 GPRS Terminal
FOOTHILL RANCH, California and MIAMI, Florida, March 21, 2006 (Business Wire) – Emida Technologies, a leader in the global prepayment and value transfer market, announced today support of the Lipman 8320 GPRS terminal.
Support of the Lipman 8320 GPRS is significant in that it will allow store locations worldwide, without traditional landlines or with limited landline access, to work with Emida’s Debisys and Puntoflex POSA networks in order to provide prepaid wireless and value transfer services to customers.
The Lipman 8320 GPRS is the perfect choice in terminals wherever dial-up service is not available. GPRS is commonly used in Europe as an alternative to available dial-up, since it is faster and more convenient. In Latin America, GPRS is often used when landlines are not available, and in many newly developed areas, where GPRS is the defacto alternative to landlines. The terminal works over IP as well as global positioning, and the handheld terminal is ideal for stores and restaurants alike.
Since GPRS is available worldwide, support of the Lipman 8320 GPRS is key to Emida’s global growth strategy, especially in Latin America.
“Support of the Lipman 8320 GPRS brings our POSA to smaller, independently owned stores in Mexico that may not have access to landlines,” states Manuel Nunez, Emida’s General Manager, Mexico. “Convenience stores make up a large share of the Mexican and Spanish-speaking Latin American prepaid market, and being able to offer POSA access via GPRS will open up prepaid wireless opportunities to even more ISO’s and their customers.”
“The decision to support the Lipman 8320 GPRS is key to serving the international market, where the economics of local landlines sometimes doesn’t make sense,” commented Brian Hoshiko, Vice President of Engineering for Emida. “We see the GPRS option as a great alternative, and now our ISOs can decide between dial-up, IP or GPRS, depending on the location.”
Emida currently offers support for the following terminals:

Emida will be demonstrating their support of the Lipman 8320 GPRS at Intele-CardExpo Miami, Miami Convention Center, Booth 619, March 21 – March 23, 2006.

For the past twelve years, LGI Telecom has provided services primarily to independently owned and operated stores on the West Coast through their offices in Los Angeles, San Diego, La Puente and Monterey, CA.
LGI will offer cellular and long distance products via the Debisys network. Designed to run on terminals from a wide range of terminal suppliers, Debisys will allow LGI to move from their current hard card model to electronic transactions at over 5,000 direct customer locations. Emida will also offer the LGI long distance products to its network of distributors.
“POSA is a natural evolution of the card business. It gives us less expensive, more efficient tools with which to manage sales and distribution,” said Juan Carlos Gaviria, President and CEO of LGI Telecom. “With Emida’s platform, we can introduce new products at the touch of a button, and their back office features allow us to manage our agents. Plus, we can sell additional wireless products without the need for physical inventory. It’s the best of both worlds.”
“We’re thrilled LGI selected us, and we’re looking forward having LGI up and running quickly with our Debisys network,” commented Pete Sauerborn, VP, North American Sales for Emida. “LGI will be able to offer their customers and distributors new products faster, which will allow them to be more competitive. And Debisys will help solve problems for LGI that all ISOs face – inventory and cash accounting.”
Debisys is Emida’s POSA network for North America. The Debisys network offers a single-source solution for ISOs, including ePINs, long distance, cross border value transfer, top-up, stored value, lottery, cards, phones, terminals and easy back-end management.
