Emida Donates to the Jessie Rees Foundation in Irvine
FOOTHILL RANCH, California, December 30, 2013 (Business Wire) – Emida, a leader in the global prepayment and value transfer market, is proud to announce that Emida employees have collectively decided to contribute to an agreed upon non-profit organization in lieu of holiday gifts. Emida has chosen the Jessie Rees Foundation (NEGU) to be the recipient of collected funds.
The Jessie Rees Foundation was founded in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, by Jessie Rees, who fought cancer until 2012. After Jessie’s first treatment she expressed that she wanted to help the other kids fighting cancer. She recognized that what children needed was a sense of normalcy. To help them attain it, Jessie began filling brown bags with toys from her home and taking them to the hospital on her daily visits. From that beginning evolved the Jessie Rees Foundation (NEGU) whose mission is to encourage kids fighting cancer to “Never Ever Give Up.” By the end of 2013, the foundation will have delivered 80,000+ JoyJars® to 262 children’s hospitals throughout 18 countries, every Ronald McDonald house in the United States, and 7,500+ families. Each jar is stuffed with 15-20 toys to help brighten the outlook for each recipient.
Jeff Gibson, Director of Communications of the Jesse Rees Foundation stated, “The Jessie Rees Foundation is a recognized 501c3 public charity dedicated to ensuring that every child fighting cancer has the encouragement, resources and support to “Never Ever Give Up”. Everything the foundation provides to courageous kids, their families, and the hospitals and staff that care for and treat them is done at no cost to them in part because of partners like Emida, UPS, Anthem Blue Cross, and Life Technologies. It’s tremendous to see that so many people whose lives Jessie touched are carrying out her dream of getting a JoyJars® to every child worldwide who is fighting cancer.”
“It’s great to see, and be part of, Emida’s collective effort to support this foundation,” said Ron Kraft, VP/GM of North America. “All of the employees at our U.S headquarters have bonded together and become inspired to help in any way possible. Additionally, Emida’s Finance Department agreed to match every dollar that is donated by employees and, since the Jessie Rees Foundation’s reach extends to multiple countries, our International division opted to contribute substantially.”
“Jessie was clearly wise, considerate, and inspirational beyond her years. In 2012 she was awarded CNN’s Young Wonders Award as well as the Diana Award, both given to her for her inspirational work. We wanted to pass along this inspirational story and invite our valued partners to join us in supporting the Jessie Rees Foundation in its effort to ensure that children battling cancer worldwide will continue to fight and will continue to just enjoy being a kid.”
